Reflection of Groundswell 


 There are two parts of the content from Chapter one to four. The first part which contains one to three are the basic introduction of groundswell, like why, tech and profile. The second part is chapter four which demonstrated how to use groundswell. 

 The chapter one uses the example of Digg states phenomena of groundswell, and defines it as " a social trend in which people use technologies to get the things they need from each other, rather than from traditional institutions like corporations." Three forces that contributes to the trend. And if you can not beat them, emerge in it. You know what, this reminds me of what my professor told me about the origin of government. Professor said that the government are collection of people who are going to share more information, resources and completing assignments which could not be achieve by individuals. So maybe we could view the power of groundswell is not a solid government. 


Chapter two which focus on techs in groundswell, but like the jujitsu, what matters is not the tech but the relationships. "Concentrate on relationships, not the technologies." In general, author used a format: " how they work" " participation" "how they enable relationships" "how they threaten institutional power" "how you can use them", and analyzed blogs, social networks, wikis, forums, and rss, respectively. At the end of the chapter, it provides five questions shall be notice. With this format, author introduced the forms that we usually interact on internet and showed how to evaluate new technologies. 

 Chapter three introduced a new way to look at participation of groundswell. Despite different ages, they could be divided into six categories, which is creators, critics, collectors, joiners, spectators and inactive. different target aged customers have different interests and ability, what you should do is to evaluate what your target customers are. 

 Chapter four demonstrates what you should do with groundswell, and how could you do, and the risk when you are using strategies on tapping the groundswell. There are five objectives that companies can pursue in the groundswell, which are listening, talking, energizing, supporting and embracing. For example, this is what HR student think about tapping the groundswell with twitter. tapping-the-groundswell-with-twitter

    I agree with Danni, you did a great job summarizing the chapters of the book. I would recommend maybe trying to make some more current connections. Also check the formatting of your hyperlinks!
