Kuaikan anime, as good as amazing
Art,
which translated into “yishu” in Chinese, contains two illustrations, and the
first word “yi” refers to abilities of your creation and quality of your art,
while the second word “shu” could be demonstrated into the ability on selling
your art. The app we are discussing
today elaborated the way on selling art.
Kuaikan,
a company established in 2014 in Beijing, hugely changed the way of Chinese
watching or reading anime. The creation of the app, giving out a way of
publishing stories and a community for anime fans to communicate. In the
business sense, writers of anime began to making money. In the sense of culture, this app kind of
changed our perspectives about Chinese anime.
At
the beginning of Chinese anime, there were full of classic stories that
accompanied our childhood. The one which names “ Unhappy and Dump” basically
set a form of protagonist and second leading role in every anime, such as
Naruto Uzumaki(Dump) and Sasuke Uchiha(Unhappy) in Naruto, Sakuragi Hanamichi(Dump)
and Rukawa Kaede(Unhappy)in Slam Dunk and Monkey D. Luffy(Dump) and Roronoa
Zoro(Unhappy) in One Piece.
But in nowadays, what is presenting on Chinese TV
are basically idiot shows, SpongeBob Squarepants, for example, a show without
logic and stated by Harvard professors that could turn kids into idiots. Another
show, Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf which tells a story that sheep are as
clever as Sherlock Holmes and the wolf is as dump as nuts, because the wolf
could never eat a sheep due to ridiculous reasons.
Without
logic and sense of education, anime on TV are only presenting violence or just
being idiots. That challenged our belief on creation of Chinese anime and made
us worry about the future of children, and students prefer to think that there
is no anime in China. “The best stories are told by Japanese, why there is not good
stories anymore on TV now? Please stop presenting Pleasant Goat and Big Big
Wolf, they are disgusting.” said a student of primary school.
The
reason of the situation should be only blamed on its market. First of all, without
a strict limitation on copying in the publisher, copying website destroyed market
of anime, for no one wants to pay for it. Second, press or publisher won’t
invest money on stories that could not guarantee audience, for there is no
platforms reflects numbers of audiences, then writers could not be supported to
create stories on economic level. At last, a vicious cycle.
The
emerge of Kuaikan changed the situation. The copyright is respected, the story
that they are telling are restricted on app and payment are needed if you want to
read most updated stories in the first 1-3 days. What’s more, there is
promotion for writers, which means that you spend cents of money to vote for
the story you like, writers of top 1-10 get extra money, and this is also an encouragement
for writers update more.
With
the popularity of this app, the main scene is dominated by Chinese style
characters again, and we won’t worry about the culture import of other
counties. Here are several of my favorites.
