Social Media Monitoring Part I

Introduction

James Jebbia, the man who, in 1994, founded and to this day runs the SoHo-based company that has been making clothing and skateboards and a lot of other things. That company calls Supreme which began with small shop and inched its way to legendary global status. At the beginning of business, James spent time talking with skaters on streets, and kept following the trend of street culture. Then Supreme got support through skaters, hip-hop dancers. The out of mouth recommendation made it popular, and when street culture is not a minimum culture anymore, celebrities and brands began notice it.



Many factors triggered to the incredible popular of Supreme, such as high exposure, hunger marketing strategy, unforgettable BOX LOGO and attitude of street culture. Supreme has always insisted only twice a year bogo series, all products will never restock after the sale. It is this principle that not only puts all Supreme products on sale but becomes out of stock and begins to raise prices. Also let Supreme itself urged to constantly explore new things. Supreme seldom corporate with super stars, basically, celebrities usually post moment with single products to gain attention. This is Sup's cockiness.

Even though it was a small shop 24 years ago, it showed its attitude and spirit of hip-hop. Here is a video that released at the opening of Supreme in 1994.

Pictures above visualized cosmic of Supreme product. It is also said that Supreme could making money with branding everything. Some products such as brick also confuse die-hard fans of Supreme.

Facebook

Supreme's Facebook pages function in releasing collection of new seasons. And in the pictures below, we could see the corporation of other brand. Although there are so many negative comments under the post, it do not diminish passion of customers on taking line to purchase. 


The comments are die hard fans complain about the terrible attitude of Supreme staff.

The supreme account in Twitter serves same function, but they got another name, which are @dropssupreme and @SupNewsLeaks. Except what is going on with the company, there is also some picking games in those accounts. They would pick someone randomly and sent Supreme products as gifts. 




















Instagram


Interesting fact about Instagram account is that they always release videos that is not clear in content or quality of image. There are several accounts of Supreme. Each of them are responsible on different series of product. The supremenewyork is basically on release of collection, and community and drops focus on particular series.

Now I will use quantitive data from Google Trends and Social Mention to discuss about Supreme world wide.

From the graphic, we could see that the  popular of Supreme is above 50 in the most time, and at the end of the year there is a peak on Dec 7, and only comparable valley some times. We could say that Supreme is always hot during the time. 


It is not surprising that American is the top among areas of world wide, and Canada the second. There should be culture reasons behind the data because they generally have same street culture. 


For district data collection, Yonkers has the top search rate which is 100, and New York which is 96 is the second one. And other collection of high rate are around Los Angelas. This may because of the location of Supreme store. 

Social Mention



Like what I mentioned above, Supreme is always hot during the time, so the data make sense that there is such high rate in common days. The sentiment would illustrate why Supreme is incredible popular in a long time, the high price, always taking line and high exposure lead to discussions. Some may say that Supreme is art, while others think it is worthless, and consumers of Supreme are out of mind. As different groups of folks that addicted in Supreme, it make sense that there is only 30% of passion.
